2018 Municipal and School Board Elections Candidate nomination deadline - July 27, 2018

Potential candidates who want to run for office in the upcoming municipal or school board elections have until 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27 to file nomination forms.

Nomination forms are available at the Clerk’s department or online at elections.oakville.ca. Nomination forms may be filed in person at the Clerk’s department at Town Hall, 1225 Trafalgar Road, now until July 26 during regular business hours (Monday to Friday, 8:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m.) and on July 27, nomination day, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Nominations are being accepted for the offices of:

  • Mayor (one to be elected at large)
  • Councillor for the Town of Oakville (seven to be elected, one in each ward)
  • Councillor for the Town of Oakville and the Region of Halton (seven to be elected, one in each ward)
  • Trustees, Halton District School Board (four to be elected in total, one for wards 1 and 2 combined, one for wards 3 and 6 combined, one for ward 4, and one for wards 5 and 7 combined)
  • Trustees, Halton Catholic District School Board (three to be elected at large)
  • Trustee, Conseil scolaire Viamonde (French Public School Board - nomination forms to be filed with the City of Hamilton)
  • Trustee, Conseil scolaire catholique MonAvenir (French Catholic School Board)
  • Halton Regional Chair (one to be elected by all voters). Nomination forms to be filed with the Region of Halton.

The term of office is December 1, 2018 to November 14, 2022.

Under Section 29(1) of the Municipal Elections Act, 1996, as amended, a person may be nominated for an office only if, as of the day the person is nominated:
a) he or she is qualified to hold that office under the Act that creates it; and
b) he or she is not ineligible under this or any other Act or otherwise prohibited by law to be nominated for or to hold the office.

A person may not accept contributions for election purposes, or incur expenses, until that person has filed a nomination paper with the Town Clerk.
