Recent changes to the Municipal Elections Act, include changes related to campaign finances.
A candidate’s campaign period begins once their nomination papers are filed and ends December 31, 2018. Candidates may choose to file any time after voting day, in accordance with Section 88.24 of the Municipal Elections Act. If at the end of the campaign period a candidate’s campaign expenses are greater than their campaign income, their campaign will be in a deficit and they may take action to extend their campaign in order to do additional fundraising.

All candidates, including those not elected, those who withdraw their nomination or those whose nomination is rejected by the Town Clerk, must disclose and report their contributions and expenses, using the prescribed form, no later than Friday, March 29, 2019.
