Employment Opportunities

Come work in the Oakville 2022 Municipal Election

If you are eligible and interested in working in the municipal election on October 24, complete the following Application for Election Workers form.

To work as an election official in the 2022 municipal election, you must be:

  • at least 16 years of age;
  • a resident of Ontario;
  • legally entitled to work in Canada;
  • not a registered candidate or closely related to one; and
  • fully vaccinated in accordance with the town's COVID-19 Vaccination Policy and Procedure (proof of vaccination will be required).

All applicants will be required to book either an in-person or virtual interview. Those selected will be required to attend a mandatory training session.

Voting day hours of work are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Advance voting employment opportunities may be available.


Available positions

Supervisor Deputy Returning Officer

Responsibilities of the Supervisor Deputy Returning Officer (SRDO) may include, but are not limited to:​

  • pick up and drop off all of the supplies for the voting location;
  • assist with voting location opening and closing procedures;
  • oversee Assistant Deputy Returning Officer (ADRO), information officer, tabulator officer, and safety monitor;
  • assist with setting up the laptops and tabulators;
  • administer 'Oath of Qualification';
  • check voter identification and instruct voters on voting procedures;
  • issue and processes ballots.

Voting day rate of pay: $400

Tabulator Officer

The Tabulator Officer will report to the Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO).

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • assist with voting location set up and opening procedures;
  • check voter identification and instruct voters on voting procedures;
  • insert ballots in vote tabulator;
  • assist voters as required;
  • assist with voting location closing procedures;
  • pack up supplies;
  • remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed.

Rate of pay: $350 per day 

Information Officer

The Information Officer will report to the Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO).

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • assist with voting location set up and opening procedures;
  • arrange and display all signage;
  • greet voters and ask for voter identification and voter notification card;
  • confirm voter is at the correct voting location and demonstrate how to properly mark ballot;
  • assist voters with special needs, as required;
  • administer 'Oath of Qualification';
  • assist with voting location closing procedures;
  • remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed.

Rate of pay: $350 per day 

Assistant Deputy Returning Officer (Revisions and Ballots)

The Assistant Deputy Returning Officer (ADRO) will report to the Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO).

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • assist with voting location set up and opening procedures;
  • check voter identification and instruct voters on voting procedures;
  • confirm that voters' names are on the voters' list and record voters;
  • issue ballots;
  • assist voters as required;
  • complete and process revision forms, where required;
  • assist with voting location closing procedures;
  • pack up supplies;
  • remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed.

Rate of pay: $350 per day 

Safety Monitor

The Safety Monitor will report to the Supervising Deputy Returning Officer (SDRO).

Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • assist with voting location set up and opening procedures;
  • set up travel paths, exit signs for physical distancing arrange and display all signage;
  • monitor and ensure availability of cleaning supplies and sanitisers within the voting location;
  • assist voters as required;
  • pack up supplies;
  • remain at the location until all closing procedures have been completed.

Voting day rate of pay: $350
